Artificial intelligence in education
Neural networks are gradually being introduced into all areas of our lives, including education: students are increasingly turning to them for answers to homework, writing essays with them, doing projects and delegating the lion's share of independent work. And what should teachers do?
Machines have long been actively used even in schools: in Europe and the USA, calculators simplify calculations for children in the classroom, and in Russia – on the Unified State Exam in physics and computer science. But the world is moving to the next level, and teachers are increasingly using new technologies to improve the educational process and simplify their work.
In this article, we will look at the main educational AI tools and areas of their use.

Instead of eradicating neural networks, they can be used.

AI Personalizer
  • One of the main tasks set for artificial intelligence in education is the personalization of learning.
It is not always possible to keep track of everyone who does not have time to learn the material. Paying attention to the laggards and making an individual plan for them is even more so. Therefore, this is delegated to AI: it is able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and customize the educational program for them.
For example, Knewton has such a function – an adaptive educational platform that can connect to any modern educational process management system. It was already tested by Arizona State University in the USA in 2011 – student results improved by 18%, and the percentage of deductions decreased by 47%.
Knewton analyzes the actions and results of students in real time and reacts to them by creating a suitable program. So, if a student has difficulties in some issue, Knewton makes a list of problematic topics and offers additional materials and tests for its assimilation.

AI makes learning more accessible and effective.

A similar technology, Exact Path, tests students, evaluates their weaknesses and develops a plan to eliminate these shortcomings. Its introduction into the school system in Clark County in the United States has raised student growth by 30% above the norm.
Thus, by adapting to the individual needs and learning characteristics of each student, AI helps the entire group keep up with the program. Students need a personal approach, teachers need less resources with greater efficiency.

ChatGPT as an educational tool
ChatGPT (from the English Generative Pre-trained Transformer – "generative pre-trained transformer") is a chatbot with generative artificial intelligence.
Accordingly, its main function is generation. He can provide general information, create a lesson plan and create assignments, including creative ones for your text. The neural network does not yet know the basics of teaching and will not make an ideal lesson plan, but it will easily create a structure and give ideas.

Based on neural networks is easier and faster to work with.

He also summarizes the text, rewrites and checks it for errors, which helps a lot when writing assignments and checking written papers – all in one, without third-party services. In general, ChatGPT will respond to any request. But this is just an auxiliary tool that will not do it perfectly for you. By the way, this is one of the reasons why it can be very easy to calculate a task completed entirely by a neural network.
ChatGPT also knows how to write code, and another product from its creators – OpenAI Codex, created to translate an ordinary language into code, is able to compose exercises for learning programming, provide solutions and explain them.
ChatGPT is not only used for single requests: educational applications and companies are implementing it into their services. For example, the online school Skyeng and the famous language learning application Duolingo use it as an assistant for language practice. And the WolframAlpha educational platform has implemented ChatGPT to help solve mathematical equations and assignments in basic school subjects.
With one ChatGPT, you can quickly compose lessons, assignments, find information and package it into ready-made material for study. But neural networks, as well as the duties of teachers, do not end there.

AI tools for teachers
There are a lot of small AI and AI assistants for teachers on the web. We've broken them down into categories.
Testing
Yippity creates tests based on your text and collects feedback. The free version allows you to do only three tests per month.
ClassPoint is a PowerPoint add–in with artificial intelligence. ClassPoint AI analyzes presentation slides and compiles tests of various levels of complexity based on them, which conveniently collect feedback. In addition, the program has a bunch of functions for conducting interesting lessons: a timer, a survey, the ability to draw on slides and an integrated browser.
Conker creates customized tests based on your text and collects feedback. The free version is limited, but you can take ready-made tests from the site database.
Assessment
Gradescope accelerates the verification of works. It scans papers, groups responses, and allows you to check multiple papers at the same time. After that, he compiles analytics, which can be used to track the results and progress of students. The neural network works with any discipline and even knows how to check the code.
ExamSoft is an exam platform that collects and analyzes student results. And in order not to be written off, it blocks access to Wi-Fi on the device.
Online classes and presentations
Otter.ai connects to Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams and makes notes on a call or lecture. Allows you to familiarize yourself with the material for those who missed the lesson, did not have time to write something down or just want to refresh the material in their memory.
PowerPoint Speaker Coach – a PowerPoint extension that evaluates your lecture skills. It highlights unwanted words and terms and gives recommendations on tempo and pitch. This is not an assistant who helps during the lecture, but an assistant in improving your speaking and showing skills. It provides real-time commentary and is great for coaching young teachers.
SlidesAI an extension for Google Slides that creates presentations. Enter a topic or paste your text, select a design and get ready-made material for the lesson.

A beautiful and clear presentation is the key to a successful online lesson.

Conclusion
There is no point in stopping the use of neural networks – it is a useful tool that simplifies learning for both students and teachers. It generates materials for classes, personalizes learning, makes it more exciting and effective. You can implement it in your work right now: there are more and more tools for this every year.
